The Year I Left is my first book by this author. I would categorize it as a combination between Women's Fiction and romance.

The book is divided into three parts. The main narrator is 35 year old Carin (1st person POV). She is married to Jack and has a 10 year old son Charlie.

Carin is a workaholic. But she is extremely unhappy.4/5. A New York Times bestseller, The Year We Left Home is National Book Award finalist Jean Thompson’s mesmerizing, decades-spanning saga of one ordinary American family that captures the turbulent history of the country at large/5().

The Year we Left Home YEAR left book the Erickson family over the course of 3 decades. We start with Anita's marriage inand alternate voices with every chapter.

Ryan, Blake and Torrie all fill the pages of this novel. For me, it was a nice snapshot into a family and their different dynamics, and relationships over time/5.

I see that some reviewers give this book a poor rating because (1) it lacks practical content like making a will and paying off debt, or (2)it does not realistically address the traumatizing emotions felt by a person who is left with only a year to live.

But the book is not for the physically by: The past year was not only the most successful for St. Louis, Missouri’s Left Bank Books but also one of the most eventful in the store’s year history. In addition to starting their own publishing imprint, Mixed Messages Press, Left Bank co-owners and partners Kris Kleindienst and Jarek Steele closed the bookstore’s downtown location and redirected resources back to the flagship.
